If You Don’t Get Everything You Want,
You Are Really Lucky
Question: I want to know God, but I keep getting attracted to relationships. If God doesn’t want me to be married, why can’t God help me to want only God?
Sri Gurudev: That’s what God is doing. You are beginning to feel that way now. If God had given you a partner, you wouldn’t even be thinking this way, you wouldn’t even worry about knowing God. Now, because God didn’t give one to you, you are turning to God. So God is really interested in you. When God wants to help you in every way possible, God cuts off everything that would bind you. Everything that you are attached to, God cuts. “No, no, that’s not it, come to me.” Do you see? Is that not help?
If God wasn’t interested in you, God would say, “All right, do anything you want.” But God is interested in you and doesn’t want you to get caught in anything else. You are really lucky that way. Oh yes. Don’t ever think that you are lucky if you get everything you want. No. If you don’t get what you want, then you are really lucky. That means God is taking all those things away so that you will not be distracted by them.
You should be super happy if you don’t get everything you want, but it’s a hard truth to swallow. In many lives you see that God has given people everything, and they don’t even have time to think of God. Doesn’t the Bible say that? A camel could go through the eye of a needle before God could enter into the heart of a rich man. What do you mean by rich man? So many entanglements, so many attachments, so much accumulation. Even if God wants to get in, there’s no room. So don’t worry. The very fact that you are not getting any partner means that God seems to be after you.
